Lineup: Fabien: bass, synths Sylvain: guitars, synths Chris: synths, vibraphone, flutes, percussion Gerard: guitars, synths Richard: drums, samples, programming chief mart's The music of chief mart's may sound a bit strange: At times (very) loud, then quiet , groovy, then ambient, sometimes rock, then experimental, spacey with oriental flavour..., it could be best described as "instruMENTAL Psychedelic Space Rock". The, often very long, songs of the band should invite the listener on a colourful journey to the unknown spheres of his mind.A major enemy of the band ist boredom, so they try to combine as many influences as possible, like 70es Psychedelic Rock, 90es Space Rock, Electro and Ambient music, Progressive Rock of the great 70es dinosaurs, Dub, Post Rock, Drone Rock, Indie Rock... The chief-sound wouldn't be possible without bands like: Pink Floyd, Ozric Tentacles, Colorstar, Motorpsycho, Yes, Genesis, the Orb, Mogwai, Tortoise, Trans Am, Masfel, Korai Oröm, GYBE!, Loop Guru, 16 Horsepower, Yo la Tengo, Laika, Rush, King Crimson, God Machine.... The story of chief mart's began in 1998 when three friends from tétange began intense jamming. Nowadays chief has five members: Chris, Fabien, Gerard, Richard and Sylvain. Based on the "normal" rockband-setup, chief mart's uses a lot of electronic devices (synths, samplers, drum-computer); as well as Fender Rhodes, Organs, Vibraphone and exotic instruments like the theremin, flutes, Sitar… Chief mart's played quite a few concerts with other luxembourg bands, participated at the "Rock um Knuedler 2001" festival, played a totally improvised gig at the " Intro-Café " , and supported international acts like Colorstar, Fly Pan Am , Ghinzu, Grand Piano, Jaga Jazzist,… At the " Art of Noize" festival in 2000 the band contributed the sounds to the poems of writer Jean Portante. In 2003 chief mart’s won the media-price at the emergenza contest and played the alive festival in St-Vith (B) and Eurosonic festival in Groningen (Nl). Chief mart's also wrote , with their electronic side project "Principal Trade Center" major parts of the soundtrack for the new movie of luxenbourgish director Geneviève Mersch: "J'ai toujours voulu être une sainte". Other soundtrack contributions in planning. Late 1999 a first CDR "Imhotep's galactic cubism theorie" was released; to be followed in 2001 with the second self produced album "Cosmic hope indian eskimo fellowship" (still available for 10 € ). In summer 2003 chief mart’s released their third CD “morning maniac music” including 7 new songs and a remix of the chief classic “tut-ench-amun” (redone by Rocco from low density coorporation). Chief mart’s are currently working on their new album. For the first time other peoples then the band members are involved in recording sessions. chief mart's CV high-lights july 2003 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005
